Sadako was a young Japanese girl. Although Sadako was only 11 she was ill from the radiation poisoning that occured after bombing of Hiroshima in World War Two. Sadako made over 1000 paper cranes as she was told that if a person made 1000 paper cranes that their wish would come true. Rather than her own life she wished for world peace. After her death the cranes came to symbolise peace.
Sadako was a great runner she showed great courage trying to run inspite of her pain.

At the age of 25, Rebecca was walking along a lonely stretch of coastline in the southwest of Western Australia, when suddenly she heard a cry for help. It was very feint however she looked towards the sound to see a person in trouble in the water about a km out to sea. Rebecca, with no thought for her own safety, ran into the raging torrent and swam out to the struggling swimmer, whom she rescued. She was later awarded a medal by the local shire for her courage. It was this event that is said to have inspired her to writing her Nobel Prize winning novel on World Peace entitled "Why Not?". Which has sold 55 million copies world wide, the ceasefire in the middle east is also attributed to the ideals she espoused in this famous treatise.
